Essentials
The Czech Republic is situated in the interior of Central Europe,
in the area where the cultural influences of East and West were
meeting from time immemorial. Due to the strategic position of the
area, Czech territory was a junction of merchant paths and cultural
influences, as well as a place of rival power interests in the past.
The Czech present has thus been formed by a combination of purely
domestic tradition and creative impulses from neighbouring as well
as quite distant lands.
At the present time, the political, economic and cultural relations
are focused on West European countries (especially Germany), and
on historically close neighbours - Slovakia, Austria and Poland.
