Jicin
Jicin is located in the Cesky Raj region (the Czech Paradise) and
was originally a wooden town. Albrecht from Valdstejn re-built the
town in stone at the beginning of the 17th century. He built an early
Baroque chateau, a summer house with loggia, a new decanal church
and a complex of Jesuit's buildings according to an ambitious project
designed by an Italian architect. The Valdicka Gate marks an important
feature of the town. The present classical appearance of the town
and chateau arose in the period after the fire in 1768. Among other
things, Jicin is well-known as a town of fairy-tails in honour of
the fabulous robber known as Rumcajs and his author, the writer Vaclav
Ctvrtek. |
