Kokorin
This Gothic castle dating from the first half of the 14th century
was modified in the late Gothic style. The Kokorinsko protected landscape
area includes the sandstone area of the Czech Chalk Table. The natural
reserve, known as "Kokorinsky dul", is located in a deep valley of
the Psovka River, which is cut into sandstone rocks from the chalk
age. However the most famous of all are the "ragstone" formations
known as "skalni poklicky" ("rock lids"). This castle was abandoned
in the 17th century. The ruin was restored in the romantic style for
J. Spacek at the beginning of the 20th century under a skilled supervision
of Z. Winter and A. Sedlacek. Romantic interiors of an old palace
include historic equipment and period collections. The Big Tower was
modified as a lookout. |
